Same group tied to nuclear chief shooting

Anarchist threats prompt security for magistrates (ANSA) - Rome, May 15 - Three magistrates in Bologna were given special security protection Tuesday after being threatened by the same group of anarchists who claimed responsibility for kneecapping a nuclear company executive. The threats were made on a blog associated with the Informal Anarchists Federation (FAI), who said it was behind shooting Ansaldo Nucleare CEO Roberto Adinolfi in the leg in Genoa last week. The group has warned that a minimum of eight more terrorist acts are being planned as revenge for arrests of suspected group members jailed in Greece.

The government announced Monday it intends to use army personnel to help protect potential FAI targets. Extreme acts have been on the rise in recent weeks amid growing tension over austerity measures aimed at putting Italy's public finances back in order. A businessman held a revenue-service clerk hostage for six hours in Bergamo earlier this month, and police received a bomb threat Monday for a similar office in the southern city of Bari.
