Defence: Turkey's industry exports over Usd 1 bln

(ANSAmed) - ANKARA, MAY 7 - Turkey's defense industry exports were over 1 billion USD in 2011, as reported by Anatolia news agency. According to figures of the Defense Industry Undersecretariat (SSM), Turkey earned 1.090 billion USD from armored vehicles, air defense systems, rocket systems, simulators, vessels and software exports. Defense products constituted 817 million USD of this amount and the rest 273 million USD was non-defense aviation industry exports. Modernization projects implemented under the auspices of SSM climbed to 27 billion USD in 2011.

Moreover, the rate of meeting needs of Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) by domestic means rose to 54 percent from 36.7% between 2006 and 2011. Overall defense and aviation industry turnover was up 18% year-on-year to 4.38 billion USD in 2011. Defense Industry Undersecretary Murad Bayar said the overall defense and aviation industry turnover was forecast to reach 8 billion USD in the following five years. ''We aim to raise overall defense and aviation industry exports to 2 billion USD in the same period,'' Bayar also said. (ANSAmed).
