(ANSAmed) - ROME, MAY 24 - The Italian Foreign Ministry's special envoy, Maurizio Massari, was in Kuwait yesterday to discuss issues including the strengthening of bilateral political dialogue between Italy and Kuwait, in the common interest of regional stability, the increase in economic relations through the creation of new contacts between businesses and economic subjects in both nations, the revival of parliamentary dialogue, boosted by new elements drawn from the opening up of Arab society and the political representation of Islamist forces. Kuwait was the scene for the Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi's first visit as a minister last November, and has also been visited in the last two months by Italy's Defence Minister, Giampaolo di Paola and the Minister for Economic Development, Corrado Passera.

The Kuwaiti officials to hold talks with Massari included the country's Foreign Minister, Khaled al-Jarallah, the deputy speaker of the Kuwaiti Parliament, Khaled al-Sultan Bin Essa, the chair of the Committee for parliamentary friendship with Italy, Jamaan al-Harbash, and the chairman of the Kuwait Oil Company, Sami al-Rushaid. Regional political issues discussed by the envoy included Iran, Syria and the role of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), with whom Italy is attempting to promote more structured strategic dialogue. The trip to Kuwait ends Massari's tour of the Gulf, after trips in recent days to Doha and Riyadh, where he represented Italy at the "Friends of Yemen" meeting.(ANSAmed).
