(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, MAY 28 - The Anna Lindh Foundation has officially launched the 6th edition of the Mediterranean Journalist Award. The contest, which will run until 20 July 2012, is open to journalists from the 42 countries of the Union for the Mediterranean, who are invited to compete for cash prizes of €2,500.

According to the Enpi website (www.enpi-info.eu), the award is organised by the Anna Lindh Foundation in collaboration with COPEAM (the permanent conference of Mediterranean audiovisual operators), the European Commission and the Allianz Cultural Foundation. It rewards journalists from the written press, radio and television and new media, who through their work contribute to the promotion of diversity and intercultural dialogue and provide balanced and informed coverage of cultural issues in the region, ranging from minorities, migration, integration and identity to religion and cultural traditions. Given the historical social transformations unfolding in the Euro-Mediterranean region, the Anna Lindh Foundation will this year recognise exceptional journalistic works on the theme of 'Reporting on civil society and democracy-building'.

Furthermore, an' Outstanding Contribution' award will be bestowed by the International Jury to a leading journalist or media institution for their professional commitment to intercultural dialogue.

An international jury will preselect 15 finalists and then five journalists, one per category, will be announced winners of the 2012 edition. The Anna Lindh Foundation, cofinanced by Eu, promotes knowledge, mutual respect and inter-cultural dialogue between the people of the Euro-Mediterranean region. (ANSAmed)
