26 January, 17:42

(ANSAmed) - ROME, JANUARY 26 - The Custody of the Holy Land has published a new guide, to help people discover the Holy Land's holy places through the bible, history, archaeology and prayer. The book, ''La Terra Dell'Alleanza, Guida ai Luoghi Santi attraverso la Bibbia, la storia, l'archeologia e la preghiera'' (Land of Alliance, Guide to the Holy Places through the Bible, History, Archaeology and Prayer) is divided in four parts. The first part, under the title 'Following the past of our Fathers' is an introduction. It presents insight in Israel's history and politics (from the Palaeolithic period to the Palestinian question, each stage in the history of the Jewish people and of the inhabitants of the Holy Land), but also in its local flora and fauna, political system and demography. This first part focuses on the characteristics of the three main religious traditions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The remaining parts are dedicated to describing the three historic regions of the Holy Land (Galilee, Samaria and Judea), through maps, pictures and background information. The guide contains a preface by the current Custodian of the Holy Land, Pierbattista Pizzaballa. The Custody of the Holy Land is the Order of Friars Minor, asked by the Catholic Church to protect Christianity's holy places. Writer Mario Russo Cirillo has been active for many years in the organisation of religious journeys to the places mentioned in the bible. He has received several recognitions from the Custody of the Holy Land and from Israel for these activities. His book is based on fifty years of experience in pilgrimages to the Holy Land.
