(ANSAmed) - BEIRUT, MAY 9 - The Italian-Lebanese music band Kabila has played in Beirut, together with around seventy Muslim and Christian children from seven municipalities on the outskirts of Beirut. The initiative ''Singing together, living in harmony'', financed by the European Union and the Principality of Monaco, was made possible by the efforts of the municipality of Mreije, near Beirut, as part of the United Nations Development Programme's Art Gold project.

Last night Kabila, which has a singer from Arezzo born in Lebanon, staged a concert in the theatre of the UNESCO building together with ''Lubnan al Salam'' (Peaceful Lebanon). This group is formed by around seventy children between eight and thirteen years old, selected from schools in seven Christian and Muslim communities on the southern outskirts of the Lebanese capital. The project started several month ago and was concluded in April. Weekly singing contests were organised for young students, but also for teachers working at the same schools on the edge of Beirut.
