Military School Nunziatella in Naples awarded Med status

(ANSAmed) - ROME, MAY 23 - The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) awarded the Nunziatella Military School in Naples, both as an institute and institution, the status of ''Historical and cultural heritage of Mediterranean States''.

''This high honour'', a statement states, ''was received thanks to the excellent role continuously played by the school for three centuries in the field of top-level education and training, as an academic, social and economic driving force for the development of Italy and of the Mediterranean countries''.

The commemoration plaque and the parchment scroll were delivered yesterday to the Defence Minister, Giampaolo Di Paola, by Senator Francesco Maria Amoruso, the Vice-president of the PAM and by the Secretary of the Senate's Foreign Affair Commission during an official ceremony at the Senate of the Republic, participated by the President Renato Schifani. A delegation of Italian MPs, civilian and military authorities, some representatives of the School and of its Alumni Association and the Secretary general of the MPM, ambassador Sergio Piazzi took part in the ceremony. The State's honour awarding ceremony was preceded by a laurel wreath ceremony at the Altare della Patria (the Altar of the Fatherland) organised by the association of the Nunziatella former Alumni Association.
