(ANSAmed) - ROME, APRIL 18 - Minou and Mimine, the cats of
Paris, are celebrated in the exhibition ''Her Majesty the Cat'',
currently underway in the Archaeological Museum ''G.Vallet'' in
Piano di Sorrento.
The exhibition shows a collection of vintage documents, from
the mythical posters of the Chat Noir, the historical club in
Montmartre, to books, paintings, magazines, drawings, scores,
cards and posters from the '30s. In this collection the 'chat',
or cat, looks black and disturbing - like in the posters of the
Chat Noir and the scores of Man Nab - or is accompanied by
good-looking ladies, lazy, tawny or gray, like in the covers of
Le Sourire, Le Rire, La Vie Parisienne or Le Pages Folles,
popular magazines in the twentieth century.
''Le Chat Noir'' Cesare Nissirio, director of the Paris
museum in Rome which has organised the exhibition explains,
''was founded in 1881 by Rodolphe Salis. It was very popular
among artists, writers, musicians, sculptors and actors.'' Its
frequent visitors include well-known names like Charles
Perrault, Jean de la Fontaine, Honore' de Balzac, Emile Zola,
Maupassant, Colette, Debussy, Satie and Francois Coppe'.
The exhibition will remain open until May 20. During the event several meetings, concerts and films will be organised dedicated to the theme. The exhibition is part of the Cultural Week that was opened on April 15 and will be closed on April 22.
