(ANSAmed) - CATANZARO, DECEMBER 1 - Today is the first day of the economic-scientific mission to Tunisia of a delegation of entrepreneurs from Calabria. The mission is organised as part of a project launched by the regional councillorship for international policies, led by councillor Fabrizio Capua, in collaboration with Unioncamere Calabria, Desk Enterprise Europe Network and the Tunisian-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, represented by Secretary Ferruccio Bellicini. The delegation - a statement issued by the regional council reads - has had meetings in the building of the Tunisian confederation of industry (UTICA) with representatives of local institutions and enterprises, in the presence of Italian ambassador Pietro Benassi, Tunisian Vice Minister for Regional Development Ne'jib Karafi and UTICA President Wided Bouchamaoui.

The mission forms the second stage of the project, which follows last week's visit of a Tunisian delegation to Calabria. Tunisia has come out of the Arab Spring uprising with great courage and resourcefulness, and is a good test case for enterprises in Calabria, also thanks to the good diplomatic and economic relations that have made Italy Tunisia's second export country, after France. The Calabrian mission, participated by Pietro Morano, secretary of councillor Capua, is an opportunity to select and study the sectors that are best suited to set up local contacts. The role of the networks of Unioncamere is crucial to support Calabria's businessmen in this stage of reconstruction in Tunisia. During the official presentation of the Calabrian delegation, Donatella Romeo, Secretary General of Unioncamere Calabria, pointed out to the present Tunisian entrepreneurs that collaboration between the two areas is important, particularly in the sectors of construction, food and cultural and scientific exchange related to tourism and archaeology. ''Calabria, thanks to the port of Gioia Tauro,'' Donatella Romeo added, ''is a gate to Europe for the entire Maghreb, including Tunisia, a country with which our region must increase its collaboration, taking advantage of its privileged position backed by Italy."
