Immigration: Greece, Evros fence not ready before october

30 July, 18:13

(ANSAmed) - ATHENS, JULY 30 - A controversial fence designed to prevent illegal migrants from crossing the border into Greece at Evros will not be ready before October, the head of the construction firm in charge of the project said on Monday as reported by daily Athens News. According to Petros Dagres, head of the firm Dagres ATE, the delay was the result of poor weather conditions in the winter but also delays in finalising plans for the placement of the fence, which weren't completed until May 3.

He also noted that completion would depend on whether the funding for the project went smoothly. The total length of the fence will be 10,310 metres and the total cost is budgeted at 3.2 million euros. (ANSAmed).
