Syria: Turkey fears conflict spreading, Minister says

13 June, 15:56

(ANSAmed) - ANKARA, JUNE 13 - Ankara's government fears that the Syrian crisis could potentially infect its immediate neighbours, possibly Turkey itself, said deputy foreign minister Naci Koru, speaking today.

"We are worried that it could expand into our country" said the deputy minister as he spoke of the Syrian crisis to public TV network Trt.

Koru added that the Syrian crisis is an issue which "concerns our actual security".

In the provinces near the borders, Turkey welcomes around 29,500 refugees and Syrian deserters, while Istanbul is now home to numerous heads of the opposition to the regime in Damascus.
