Tunisia: trade deficit grows worse

(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, JUNE 8 - Tunisia's trade deficit continues to worsen, as shown by the figures on the first five months of the year elaborated by the National Statistics Institute and reported by TAP. In the January-May period the deficit was at -4.44938 billion dinars (about 2.25 billion euros), while in the first four months it had been -3.316 billion dinars, with a decline of 7.1 points of the coverage rate for imports against exports. The increase in Tunisian imports was seen in all sectors, especially energy (29.8% against the 19.8% seen in 2011), raw materials and semi-processed ones (10.2% compared with 6.8%) and equipment (11.1% against -0.9%).
