Tunisia: Salafi Islamic party authorised

Interior Ministry: done by Prime Minister

(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, MAY 11 - The Reform Front, an Islamic party inspired by Salafi philosophy, has been given authorisation to conduct political activities in Tunisia. The news has come from the party's Chair, Mohamed Khouja, who, as some websites have pointed out today, was prosecuted during the 1980s for a series of violent attacks against people. Khouja's party places the adoption of Sharia at the foundation of daily life and aims to reunite all Muslims in the great 'Umma' (the Islamic nation). It should be noted that the country's Interior Ministry has made a clear statement about the party's authorisation. In a rather unusual procedure, and with timing that practically rules out any coincidence, the Ministry points out on its official Facebook page that the authorisation of parties is no longer within its remit. Since September 2011, this function has been carried out directly by the Prime Minister. The law in Tunisia bans any authorisation of parties that are based directly on religious faith. (ANSAmed).
