(ANSAmed) - NEW YORK, JULY 2 - The United Nations said Monday that both the Assad regime and the rebels engaged in a bloody conflict in Syria have violated human rights.

"Human-rights violations have been documented by both the government and the opposition in Syria," said UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay at the end of a Security Council meeting.

"A rise has been reported in the use of heavy arms by the regime, as well as a rise in the use of explosive devices by the rebels". (ANSAmed).
