(ANSAmed) - CATANIA, MAY 15 - The International Festival of
Frontier Cinema will be back in the squares of Marzamemi between
July 23 and 29.
Expected to feature this year at this small fishing town in
the Syracuse region of Pachino, will be authors, stories and
personalities from countries affected by the 'Arab Spring'
including Tunisia, Egypt, Syria and Iran. The festival will also
have its film review: 'WikiSham', a cartoon by Syrian activists;
'The Reluctant Revolution' by Scotland's Sean McAllister, the
only documentary made so far on that least known of Arab
revolutions - the one in Yemen; 'On the Road to Downtown', by
Egyptian Sherif Elbendary and 'Back to the Square' by Canadian
of Czech origins, Petr Lom, which tells of an Egypt of
half-betrayed hopes following Tahrir Square through the lives of
ordinary people and revolutionary leaders. Also in the bill is
'Felicity land' by Iranian Maziar Miri that unearths betrayals
and marital crises in an affluent area of Teheran, and the short
film (and Oscar candidate) 'Bahiya & Mahmoud' by the e'migre'
Palestinian living in Los Angeles, Zaid Abu Hamdan.
This shows the unbearable quarrelsome daily life of an
elderly couple transformed by the unpredictable outcome of a
simple misunderstanding. 'Lightning Over the Mediterranean' is a
review of documentaries and non-formats to be screened in the
Cortile Arabo. The film programme will be interleaved with
events and showings of restored classic films and there will
also be a silent film evening with live music. (ANSAmed).
