Serbia: Nikita Mikhalkov to open European Film Festival

    (ANSAmed) - BELGRADE, 12 JULY - The 20th edition of the annual European Film Festival, held at Lake Palic in northern Serbia, will be opened by famous Russian director and actor Nikita Mikhalkov on Saturday, the festival's organizers have said.

    The European Film Festival - Palic 2013 will take place from July 13 to 19, at several locations near Lake Palic and in the nearby city of Subotica, with more than 90 films to be screened in 11 program selections.

    For their outstanding contribution to European cinema, Mikhalkov and one of the greatest Serbian filmmakers Emir Kusturica received the Aleksandar Lifka award for this year.

    Mikhalkov and Kusturica will be handed the award by festival director Radoslav Zelenovic.

    "The Gate of Eternity,” a short film directed by Szabolcs Tolnai, filmed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the festival, will be screened at the beginning of the opening ceremony. (ANSAmed)
