(ANSAmed) - PRISTINA/BELGRADE, MAY 8 - The conservative Tomislav Nikolic leads the way after votes were counted in 85 of the 90 polling stations set up in Kosovo for voting in the Serbian presidential elections. Nikolic earned a 21.09% share of the vote, ahead of the conservative former PM, Vojislav Kostunica (20.75%), the socialist leader, Ivica Dacic (20.36%) and the outgoing President, Boris Tadic, who scored 18.97%.

After counting at 84 out of 90 stations, meanwhile, Ivica Dacic's Serbian Socialist Party (SPS) was ahead in the parliamentary vote, with 20.43%, ahead of the Kostunica's conservative Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS, 19.90%), Nikolic's Serbian Progress Party (SNS, 19.79%) and President Tadic's Democratic Party (DS), which earned 17.41%.

A little over 109,000 Serbian electors turned out across Kosovo, particularly in the majority Serb north of the country, but also in the numerous Serbian enclaves.

The vote was made possible by mediation and facilitation works by the OECD and took place amid a situation of calm and without any serious incidents. In an effort to heighten security, KFOR, the NATO force in Kosovo, drafted in an extra contingent of 700 soldiers, 550 Germans and 150 Austrians.(ANSAmed).
