Syria: Press - Head of SNC in Saudi Arabia soon

15 June, 19:24

(ANSAmed) - BEIRUT, JUNE 15 - The Chair of the Syrian National Council, Abdel Bassit Sida, who has recently been elected to lead the foreign-based opposition platform, is to travel to Saudi Arabia over the coming days to meet representatives of the Gulf kingdom. The news appears in a report in today's pan-Arab newspaper Asharq al Awsat, which cites local political sources. The London-based paper says that Mr Sida, who succeeds Burhan Ghalioun at the head of the SNC, will be in Jeddah, on the Red Sea, "to coordinate support for the Syrian revolution".

For fifteen months now, Syria has been shaken by the regime's bloody repression of a popular uprising. Since last summer, this has been transforming into an armed revolt, and is beginning to look more and more like a sectarian civil war. The government accuses terrorists with backing from the West, Turkey and the Gulf states of being behind the violence.(ANSAmed).
