(ANSAmed) - CAGLIARI, MAY 17 - The "Migramed, migrations in the Mediterranean, talks between sides" conference is in Cagliari for three days of meetings on the refugee emergency together with the Caritas of the Mediterranean. During the conference the Mayor of Cagliari, Massimo Zedda and the President of the Province ofCagliari Angela Quaquero repeated their "No" to a blockade on migratory flow.

"The minister of the Interior Cancellieri has announced the possibility of closing the migratory flow for this year: we need to be aware that no law was ever enough to stop the movement of people escaping from the war, poverty and famine", said Mayor Zedda commenting on the possibility that Italy could stop the entrance of new immigrants this year.

"We need to instead be equipped, also mentally, to receive and not block this flow", Zedda continued, "and strengthen the cooperation. Today there is talk of financial and economic crisis and instead we must remind people of how the real richness of the Mediterranean are in the men and women of the various countries touched by this sea". Also the Prefect of Cagliari, Giovanni Balsamo, speaking at Migramed, underlined "the positive role in reception which Cagliari and Sardinia" offer the migrants.

"I think that blocking the migratory flow would simply signify a double shot in the foot", the President of Cagliari's Province, Quaquero said, adding that "It would be bad for us because if you block the flow you immediately increase the level of illegal immigrants who in financial terms cost Italy even more from a prevention and management of illegality. It would have a negative impact because we still have job sectors which continue not being held by Italian citizens. (ANSAmed).
