The young jurors from 54 countries and 160 Italian cities will view films like A Bottle in the Gaza Sea, a French-Israeli-Canadian production, The Horses of God, set in a Casablanca shantytown, and Zarafa, the story of a 10-year-old boy who wants to save a giraffe. They will also get a chance to see Dreamworks' Madagascar 3, which already screened at Cannes, and the premiere of Ice Age 4. The theme of this year's edition, which opens in the small seaside town near Salerno on July 14 to run through July 24, is happiness. ''We want it to spread to the entire world in this time of crisis,'' said festival managing director, Claudio Giubitosi, who in spite of budget cuts, has widened the scope of the event to include rock concerts by the likes of Patti Smith and Pino Daniele. Stars Jessica Alba, Nicholas Cage, and Jean Reno will be in attendance. Other special events include a Tim Burton marathon, a Francois Truffaut retrospective, and a Campania Region program called GNAM, which will try to educate young audiences on eating right and on the value of the Mediterranean diet.
