(ANSAmed) - BEIRUT, SEPTEMBER 21 - Sixteen students from
eight schools in southern Lebanon and the children of UN
personnel deployed on the border with Israel covered the walls
of the UNIFIL headquarters in the border town of Naqura with
drawings dedicated to peace. The initiative was organized by
UNIFIL to celebrate the 31st International Day of Peace
instituted by the United Nations in 1981.
During the ceremony, which was attended by representatives of the Lebanese armed forces, political and religious authorities and ambassadors of countries which have troops in Lebanon, UNIFIL's commander, Italian General Paolo Serra, placed a laurel crown in front of a memorial plaque dedicated to the UN peacekeepers who died in action.
'The International Day of Peace means to involve each person looking for peace because each one of us can serve as a model to inspire others', Serra told the children who made the wall paintings. (ANSAmed).
