(ANSAMed) - BEIRUT, JULY 2 - Saudi Arabia has advised its
citizens to avoid traveling Lebanon because it is a security
risk following the Syria crisis, according to official news
agency SPA.
Saudi Arabia becomes the fifth Gulf country, following United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrein, to issue a travel advisory, which could seriously affect the tourist season in Lebanon, which is a favorite destination of Arab holiday travelers.
In the past few months, armed conflicts and casualties have occurred in the Northern parts of Lebanon between factions supporting and opposing Syrian President Bashar al Assad.
Several more incidents have taken place along the border between Lebanon and Syria, which withdrew its troops from Lebanon in 2005, after 29 years of military occupation.
In the latest such incident, two Syrian policemen were wounded by a rocket launched from Lebanon this morning. Syrian security forces crossed the border and briefly detained two Lebanese policemen for questioning.
The Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry advised citizens not to travel to Lebanon 'for their own safety and that of their families, until further notice', according to SPA. (ANSAMed).
