Refugees (UNHCR) offices in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey
all posted increases in the numbers of Syrian refugees fleeing
their war-torn country, UNHCR spokesperson Adrian Edwards said
on Friday.
As of yesterday, Syrian war refugees totaled 146,667. One third of these, or over 50,000 people, fled to Turkey, where more than 6,000 new arrivals were registered this week, Edwards said. Most of them are fleeing the embattled city of Aleppo and nearby villages, Edwards said. ''But we know that in several countries, many refugees are still undocumented,'' Edwards said, adding that in July, approximately 8,000 refugees ''voluntarily'' left Turkey to return to their villages, mostly in the Idlib region.
