The exodus of Syrians fleeing the violence and arriving in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq is rising, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). In the last three months, humanitarian organisations have recorded an average of 500 refugees a day, said the UNHCR, which alongside other agencies today launched an appeal for 193 million dollars in funds.
The figure of 185,000 refugees to be assisted by the end of the year is for use in planning interventions based on the latest numbers. Around 75% of Syrian refugees are women or children. Many come from the region of Homs. (ANSAmed).
