(ANSAmed) - AMMAN, MAY 30 - UN-Arab league envoy to Syria
Kofi Annan met Jordan's foreign minister Nasser Judeh on
Wednesday following a tense visit to Damascus to salvage the
doomed ceasefire between government and rebels.
Annan will later meet king Abdullah before travelling to Beirut for further consultation, one day after major European nations expelled Syrian ambassadors following massacre in Houla, where 108 people were killed.
The shuttle trip is meant to avoid descending into a full scale political crisis in light of rising violence and absence of tangible political solution that could end the 15 month old bloodshed.
Jordanian officials said the kingdom is worried about security meltdown in neighbouring country and prefers to continue pursuing diplomatic solution. Jordan is also concerned about an influx of more refugees from Syria following the arrival of more than 120,000 over the past year.
Annan had warned that action must be taken not words to put an end to the crisis, as rebel fighters fought government forces in northern and southern parts of the country to regain control over restive towns.
The UN security council condemned Houla massacre but fill short from imposing tough sanctions or pave the way for military intervention.(ANSAmed).
