(ANSAmed) - NAPLES, JULY 2 - Luna Rossa and Oracle are both celebrating at the end of the America's Cup 2011/2012 World Series, which ended yesterday in Newport, RI.

Italian catamaran Luna Rossa Piranha, owned by Chris Draper and Francesco Bruni, came first in the Newport leg, taking advantage of a penalty inflicted on Russel Coutts and his AC45 Oracle.

Luna Rossa Swordfish harried New Zealand to the end, but came in third. This is a positive outcome for both Luna Rossa vessels, which entered the World Series race here in April.

Oracle Team USA won the overall race, with skipper James Spithill raising the Cup in Newport after the Cascais, Plymouth, San Diego, Naples and Venice legs. Spithill has won a total of 130 regattas during the race, which lasted more than 30 days. America's Cup contestants are now preparing for the 2012/2013 circuit, starting in San Francisco August 21-26 and ending in Naples in May 2013. (ANSAmed).
