08 May, 20:03

(ANSAmed) - ROME, MAY 8 - Trade between Italy and Turkey is already at a high level, currently worth over 21 billion dollars, ''but we are convinced that these volumes can grow still further in a substantial way''. So said Prime Minister Mario Monti at the end of a meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan. Monti stressed how Rome and Ankara have decided to develop joint ventures to ''explore the ground for development'' including in third-party markets. At today's summit, which saw a further eight Turkish ministers alongside Erdogan, several accords were signed for cooperation in the fight against organised crime and terrorism; on the economy and industry, security, environmental protection and sustainable development as well as for a scientific and technological programme.
