(Refiling corrected) (ANSAmed) - TRIESTE, MAY 8 - ''The Italian delegation to the CEI (Central European Initiative) Parliamentary Assembly intends to maintain its commitment to sustaining the economic transition in nations that are not members of the European Union, including through the search for new resources for the CEI Fund at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development''. So said today the head of the delegation, Roberto Antonione, who is visiting the EBRD in London. Accompanied by delegation member Aldo Di Biagio, Mr Antonione stressed how EuroMPs are looking ''with favour at the policies of the EBRD which aim to transfer know-how and best practice from central and southern Europe to the southern shore of the Mediterranean through the CEI''.
The mission to London has provided an opportunity to deepen the bank's structure and functioning. Italy is a founder member of the bank and one of its principal donors. The country also contributes through meetings with officials in leading positions, especially with its Secretary General, Enzo Quattrociocche, and with the Director of its Italian office, Giorgio Leccesi. Deputy Chair for Operating Policy, Jan Fischer, presented an overview of the bank's activities in countries where the CEI Fund is operating, with particular emphasis on the Fund's supporting role for the bank's actions in the CEI area and Italy's contribution to the Bank. According to a note issued by CEI, the visit formed part of the process of strengthening relations between CEI and the EBRD and confirms the importance of this relationship for Italy, following Fischer's visit to Rome in October 2011.
