(ANSAmed) - San Marino, July 2 - Israel's deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Avigdor Liberman, made an official visit Monday to the San Marino Republic, a tiny independent city state in northern Italy.

Liberman accepted the invitation extended by San Marino Secretary of State Antonella Mularoni. The encounter reinforced "the optimal bilateral relationship" and "the will to intensify relations in all fields, including agreements that are economic in nature," read a note on the meeting.

Mularoni reiterated the wish of the San Marino people "to make the greatest possible contribution for a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, respecting values of cooperation, preservation of human rights, tolerance and dialogue between peoples". Before leaving San Marino, Liberman took part in the ceremony of the planting of an olive tree in Piazza della Liberta' - a name that means "Liberty Square". The tree is a gift from Israel as a "symbol of peace and fraternity". (ANSAmed).
