Crisis:Israel heading for boom in emigration of Italian Jews

Peak expected in 2012,political effect;Jerusalem conference

(ANSAmed) - JERUSALEM, JUNE 27 - 2012 could be the year of a boom in emigration by Italian Jews. If the figures of the first five months are confirmed, some 200 Italian Jews will have emigrated to Israel by the end of 2012. The small number nevertheless remains significant not only in relation to the wider Italian population but also for reasons linked to the impact of the current economic crisis on the fabric of Italian society.

The figure was revealed by the demographer, Sergio Della Pergola, at the opening of a conference in Jerusalem entitled "Italia, the Italkim and Israel", effectively a follow-up to last year's conference on the contribution of Italian Jews to the the unification of Italy. (ANSAmed).
