We are waiting for ambitious proposals in the next week

(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, 20 JUNE - The European Commission maintains that the "master plan" on solar energy for the Mediterranean "must be realistic" in terms of infrastructures.

This is what Fabrizio Barbaso, the Deputy Director General of the EU Commission's Energy Directorate stated today in Brussels, during the ''Mediterranean energy forum''.

The guidelines the experts of the UfM Secretariat and member states are working on "must become the main point of reference, " Barbaso added, "it is important that all countries take part in the process, we count on it. We are not dealing with specific decisions, which must be taken at a later stage and on the national level, jointly with enterprises."With regard to the infrastructure section of the "master plan", Italy and Spain are already at work, with the strong support by the UfM secretariat.

The goal is to determine conditions and requirements for the development of infrastructures, involving operators and other member states and only in the final stage a list of projects will be produced. "It is important," the EU Commission responsible person added," that the "master plan" is a common project for the EU and contains a general vision of the entire power network in the Mediterranean." Barbaso concluded: "We expect ambitious proposals to be developed in the upcoming weeks." (ANSAmed)
