Projects on track, like Maghreb motorway

(ANSAmed) - BRUSSELS, JUNE 8 - ''We have a feeling that the Union for the Mediterranean will make a new start in 2012,'' said the organisation's new secretary general Fatallah Sijilmassi. Sijilmassi made his remark after a meeting of the Union's presidency bureau at the European Parliament in Brussels. ''The current concentration of political and economic efforts,'' the secretary general explained, ''should be focused on regional cooperation and projects, through the secretariat." Therefore the whole organisation in Barcelona ''should take the projects that are labelled 'UFM' and make sure they are financed and carried out. We are working towards this goal and the projects in which most progress has been made are the Maghreb motorway between Casablanca and Tunis, the desalination facility in Gaza and the Logismeta logistic platform, aimed at making the transport of goods in the Mediterranean as competitive as possible for business,'' Sijilmassi added.
