Greece: Kammenos denies sending document to president

15 May, 10:22

(ANSAmed) - ATHENS, MAY 15 - Panos Kammenos, the head of the Independent Greeks party - which came fourth in the May 6 polls - denied on Tuesday that he had sent a proposal to the Greek president on Monday outlining his position on the formation of a unity government, though he did not overrule that it may have been sent by on of his associates.

The office of President Karolos Papoulias - who is due to meet with political leaders later on Tuesday in a last-ditch effort to form a government - on Monday night had distributed a document to the leaders of the other political parties apparently originating from the office of Independent Greeks, stating that the party would support a unity government if it were matter of "national urgency." Kammenos will take part to the meeting with the other party leaders with President Papoulias in the early afternoon today.
