(ANSAMed) - BRUSSELS, JULY 12 - The European Commission has green-lit the hiring of 249 Croatian personnel in view of Zaghreb's EU entry July 1, 2013 for a 5-year trial period ending June 30, 2018, EC sources said today. ''After years of negotiations, we are entering the final phase of Croatia's adhesion,'' EU Inter-institutional Relations Commissioner Maros Sefcovic said today.

The new hires are primarily translators and legal interpreters.

Citizens from the 28 member countries will be able to apply for functionary and assistant posts, which will open up before the end of the year.

The EU delegation in Croatia will close its doors on June 30, 2013, to be replaced by a European Commission delegation, with a staff of 20. Another 35-40 people will make up the transition team for a maximum period of 18 months. (ANSAMed).
