"The European Commission has learned with some concern of the arrest in Turkey of Osman Isci, an activist from the Euro-Mediterranean network for human rights and of a dozen trade union figures associated with the confederation of public workers unions," Stano said.
"The European Commission has observed a rise in the number of trials against defenders of human rights and members of trade unions, lawyers and journalists, with cases linked in particular to anti-terror legislation, " Stano said.
"The regulatory framework on terrorism and organised crime leads to repeated infringements of the right of liberty and security, the right to a fair trial and of freedom of expression, assembly and association, and should be modified as soon as possible". (ANSAmed).
