(ANSAmed) - BELGRADE, MAY 11 - In an interview with Serbian
Radio and Television (RTS) Croatian President Ivo Josipovic said
that Croatia considered it important to continue having partners
in the region in building regional stability, noting that the
current elections in Serbia were being followed with interest in
Croatia. Josipovic said that Croatian-Serbian relations had
started to improve and that he and former President Boris Tadic
had built a partnership over the last few years. "Regardless of
who is elected, it is our position that there must be no going
back to the situation in the 1990s, but that we should continue
with the policy of good neighbourly relations and with a policy
that will... effectively solve problems that still exist in our
relations," Josipovic said. He added that he and Tadic
considered reconciliation and building good neighbourly
relations and stability in the region the right way to lead
their nations. "The forthcoming elections are important for
Serbia so that it could elect a modern, pro-European government
that will efficiently lead the country towards the completion of
the (membership) talks," he said, reiterating that Croatia, as
an EU member, would provide political as well as technical
support to neighbouring countries in their aspirations for EU
membership. (ANSAmed)
