(ANSAmed) - SARAJEVO, MAY 7 - The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague expects Bosnia Herzegovina to provide its major institutions with greater resources so that hundreds of cases of war crimes can be processed more quickly and efficiently, particularly those handed over by the ICTY to the local judiciary. The court also wants Serbia to continue its efforts against the support network that allowed fugitives such as Ratko Mladic, Radovan Karadzic and Goran Hadzic to escape capture for 17 years.

The ICTY's hopes were expressed in an interview with the Sarajevo daily 'Oslobodjenje' by the ICTY's chief prosecutor, Serge Brammertz, who has arrived from Zagreb for a three-day visit in Sarajevo, from where he will move on to Belgrade. His tour of the region comes ahead of the six-monthly report to be submitted to the UN Security Council in June.

"Despite good news regarding the fact that there are no more fugitives, significant work remains to be done," Brammertz said.

"We continue to demand the collaboration of these countries in order to be efficient in seeing through the ongoing trials and appeals at the ICTY".(ANSAmed).
