Algeria: Elections, Islamic alliance, vote manipulation

11 May, 16:49

(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, MAY 11 - Islamic parties belonging to the Green Alliance are disputing the results beginning to emerge in Algeria after elections for the country's National Assembly, talking openly of what they are calling "vote manipulation".

Abderrazak Mokri claims that fraud is taking place in Algeria's wilayas (provinces). He believes that central government is "manipulating the results from one wilaya to another". Mokri said that the Green Alliance is ready to take "appropriate measures", though did not explain what these would be or provide figures on the scale of the phenomenon, and pointed the finger at the Algerian President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, for being responsible for the goings-on.
